  While touring Åland by bike, I took a ferry from Vårdö to Simskäla island to visit the Anni Blomqvist Museum. After walking around the house and listening to the recorded audio about Anni’s life, her hardships, and how she became the beloved author of the Stormskärs Maja books, the museum guide joined us to share even more stories about the place and about Anni. Towards the end of the tour, she modestly dropped the surprising fact that Anni was actually her aunt! That really added depth and authenticity to everything she told us.

  A wonderful place, and the guide is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable ❤️ The entrance lap tube (€2) is absolutely ridiculous.
